Dryhead Agate is a rare, banded variety of microcrystalline chalcedony prized by collectors and artisans for its defined banding and distinctive fortification patterns. These characterized by tight, rounded concentric rings in shades of red, orange, yellow, pink, cream, and sometimes brown, often centered around a small quartz core.
Dryhead Agate is exclusive to the remote Dryhead area in Montana, near the Bighorn Canyon. Access is restricted, with them being sourced from private land by one minor. The area’s rugged terrain and limited supply contribute to its rarity and collectability.
This Dryhead pair is 4.5inches long, 2.5inches tall, 3inches from face to back of the stone on one half and the other half is 4.75inches long, 2.5inches tall and 2.25inches from face to back of the stone. Together they weigh 2.58lb or 1.17kilo
